Brandi Cummings is an award-winning journalist, newsroom leader and community advocate who serves as a Morning Anchor at KCRA 3, the No. 1 television station in the Sacramento region. Since joining KCRA in 2018, she has covered major Northern California stories while consistently using her platform to elevate community voices and spotlight issues that matter.
Brandi also serves as President of the Sacramento Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Under her leadership, the chapter has experienced significant growth and successfully hosted the 2026 NABJ Region IV Conference in Sacramento, bringing together media professionals and community leaders while creating opportunities for emerging journalists.
The chapter was honored as 2026 NABJ Chapter of the Year, and Brandi was named NABJ Journalist of Distinction, recognizing her contributions to journalism, leadership and community impact.
My Journey
Prior to KCRA, Brandi worked at WAVY/WVBT in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the station’s solo weekend evening anchor. During the week, she worked as both a general assignment and an award–winning investigative reporter. Before going to WAVY, Brandi worked as a morning anchor at WTOC in Savannah, Georgia. Before moving to Savannah, Brandi worked as a reporter/anchor at WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. She began her career as a producer at WRDW in her hometown, Augusta, GA.
The Early Years
During the 2016-2017 school year, Brandi was an adjunct professor at the prestigious Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication at Hampton University.
Brandi has several honors which include awards from the Virginia Associated Press and the South Carolina Associated Press. She is a two-time National Association of Black Journalist Salute to Excellence Award winner.
In May 2012, Brandi was honored with a Concurrent Resolution (2011-2012 Bill 1219: Brandi Cummings - South Carolina Legislature Online (scstatehouse.gov)) from the South Carolina General Assembly for her service to the people in the state.
Brandi’s stories have allowed her to interview several influential people including former President Barack Obama. In addition to a long list of accomplishments, features, and mentions, Brandi was featured on the Summer 2011 cover of Midlands Woman Magazine (Midlands Woman by Midlands Woman Magazine - Issue) . She is a former Board Member of The First Tee of Savannah. Brandi is a Lifetime Member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, San Francisco/Northern California Chapter.
In 2010, Brandi fulfilled a life’s dream to develop a program for girls. In both Columbia, SC and Savannah, GA, she spearheaded the execution of the program she created, titled the “Loving Me Seminar” for teen girls. Brandi has a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Lasell College where she graduated in August 2014 with a 3.95 GPA while working full-time. Brandi has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University, where she graduated with honors. Her alma mater honored her as a “Clark Atlanta University Alum for a Day,” on May 22, 2013.
She, her husband and two children live in Sacramento.
